Disclaimer: The application is designed to provide training courses for learners who prepare for the DMV permit test (including cars, commercial vehicles and motorcycles). This app is not affiliated with the DMV or any Department of Motor Vehicles and it does not replace the official DMV application.

DMV Permit Practice Test is an Android app published by Nanobyte Software Limited ("we", "us", or "our"). The app is primarily intended for learners in the United States and is also available in other countries. This policy explains what information is collected, how it is used and shared, and the choices available to you when you use the app or contact us.

Consent & scope

This policy applies to DMV Permit Practice Test and our handling of information you provide when contacting us. Information you choose to submit is used for the purposes explained here. Where an activity requires your consent, we obtain it separately; using the app does not replace that permission.

This policy covers information handled by us and by service providers working on our behalf. It also describes third-party services integrated into the app. Where a provider handles information independently, its own privacy policy also applies, as explained under External services & tracking.

Age requirements

The app is intended for users over the age of 13. It is not directed at children younger than 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at [email protected]. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take reasonable steps to delete it from systems under our control and address the matter with relevant service providers where appropriate.

International processing

Information processed in connection with the app may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States and other countries where we or our payment, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, and support providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection rules from your country of residence. Your locally stored study records are not uploaded to our servers as part of this processing.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will handle that transfer in accordance with those requirements. The provider policies linked below explain their international processing practices and safeguards. You can contact us with questions about information processed in connection with the app.

Information we handle

Personal information is information that identifies you or can reasonably be linked to you, such as an email address or an online identifier. Anonymous information cannot reasonably be linked back to an individual. A device identifier is not necessarily anonymous.

Study information stored on your device

The app has no account registration. Your progress, answers, scores, favorites, and study preferences stay on your device and are not uploaded to our servers. We do not provide server-based synchronization or backup of your study records. We do not send device identifiers to our own backend servers; integrated services may receive identifiers directly as explained below.

Information you provide when contacting us

When you contact us, we receive your email address and any name, message, attachments, or technical details you voluntarily include so we can respond. This may include your device model, operating system, app version, or a description of an error. Please include only information relevant to your request.

Information collected through technology

Using online features can involve processing technical information such as an IP address and the time of a request. The advertising, analytics, and crash-reporting services integrated into the app may also collect device and operating system details, app version, app interactions, session information, diagnostic reports, and device or app installation identifiers. The information collected depends on the service and its configuration.

These services can send information directly from your device to their providers, even though you do not have an app account. We use the reports they provide to understand app usage and diagnose problems. This processing is separate from storing your answers, scores, favorites, and study progress locally. See External services & tracking for details.

Device permissions

The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, or device location permissions. Advertising or analytics services may still estimate a general location from your IP address without accessing your device's GPS location.

Payments

One-time purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely through Google Play. We do not collect card or bank details, or store and manage purchase records on our servers. Google handles payment information under its own privacy policy.

Why we use information

We use information for the purposes described in this policy, or for another purpose with any authorization required from you:

  • Provide practice content and preserve your study progress locally.
  • Respond to support requests and communicate about the issue you reported.
  • Maintain the service, investigate errors, and improve the app experience.
  • Understand usage patterns and app reliability through analytics and crash reports.
  • Enable purchased features through Google Play.
  • Display and measure advertising and help prevent misuse.
  • Comply with legal obligations, address privacy requests, and protect the app and its users.

We do not send promotional emails or newsletters. If you contact us, we may send replies and follow-up messages needed to handle your request. Information you provide for support is used for that purpose and related service, security, or legal needs.

When information is shared

We do not sell user data or share your locally stored study records with other organizations.

Service providers

Providers supporting app operation may process information needed to deliver their services. Google Play handles payments, Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network handle advertising, and Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics provide usage analysis and crash reporting. Providers supporting technical operations or support communications may also handle the information needed for those tasks.

Where providers process personal information on our behalf, they are permitted to use it to perform the services we request, subject to applicable terms and data-protection obligations. Where a provider processes information independently, its own terms and privacy policy govern that processing. If we learn of a provider using information handled on our behalf in a way that conflicts with this policy, we will take reasonable steps to address it.

Affiliates and business changes

We may share information we hold with a parent company, subsidiary, or other company under common control where needed for the purposes described in this policy. In that case, we will require that company to protect the information consistently with this policy.

If ownership of the app or its business changes, information then held by us may transfer to the successor as part of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets. Information may also be transferred in connection with insolvency, bankruptcy, or receivership, subject to applicable law. Any successor handling that information will be subject to the protections in this policy, and we will provide notice where required. These circumstances do not give us access to study records stored only on your device.

Legal and protective disclosures

We may disclose information we hold when necessary to meet a legal obligation, respond to a lawful request, including a valid subpoena or court order, investigate suspected fraud or unlawful activity, enforce applicable terms, or protect our rights, property, and the safety of our users. Such disclosures may be necessary even if you have requested that we limit other uses of your information.

External services & tracking

Advertising: Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network

The app uses Google AdMob with Meta Audience Network mediation. These services may collect information directly from your device for ad delivery, performance measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention.

Google's advertising SDK processes IP addresses, app and ad interactions, diagnostics, and identifiers such as the Android advertising ID where available. An IP address may be used to estimate general location. Processing depends on the service configuration and applicable privacy choices. Meta Audience Network may process device information, identifiers, and ad interactions to deliver and measure ads and help prevent fraud, as explained in its privacy policy. Advertising may be personalized where permitted and subject to applicable consent requirements and choices.

Usage analytics: Google Analytics for Firebase

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used and improve the user experience. It collects app interaction and session events, device and app information, and an app-instance identifier. Depending on configuration and consent settings, it may also process advertising identifiers. Reports can include usage frequency, engagement, and general location. These analytics do not provide account-based synchronization of your study records.

Crash reporting: Firebase Crashlytics

We use Firebase Crashlytics to identify and fix crashes and other stability problems. It processes crash reports, diagnostic information, device and operating system details, app version, and installation identifiers. These reports help us understand what failed and how many installations were affected.

Cookies and similar technologies

Integrated services may use cookies, device identifiers, or local storage to support their functions. Cookies are small pieces of information stored on a device; some last only for a session, while others remain until they expire or are removed. Available settings can help you manage advertising preferences and stored information.

Other websites

Following an ad or external link takes you to a separate service. Its own privacy policy governs the information it collects, and this policy does not cover its activities.

Your controls & requests

Advertising choices

You can use the advertising controls available in Android and the providers' services to manage your preferences. Available options depend on your device and the provider. Restricting personalized advertising does not necessarily stop all ads or the processing needed to deliver them.

Android's advertising settings may let you reset or delete your advertising ID; the available options and menu names vary by Android version. Where a service presents consent choices, you can use the controls provided with those choices. Advertising settings do not necessarily disable separate analytics or crash reporting.

Changing or removing information

You can clear locally stored study information through Android's app storage settings. There is no app account to delete. Clearing app storage removes your local progress and preferences. It does not delete information already processed by external services or cancel a Google Play subscription; subscriptions are managed through Google Play.

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information under our control, contact [email protected]. This includes information processed by providers on our behalf. Describe your request and the information concerned. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your request and locate relevant records; because there is no app account, we may not be able to connect a name or email address to an installation identifier without further information.

Depending on the law applicable to you, you may also have rights to receive a copy of your information in a portable format, restrict or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that lawfully occurred before withdrawal. Contact us to exercise applicable rights or ask about analytics and crash-reporting data. We will respond in accordance with applicable requirements. Information held independently by Google or Meta is also subject to their own request processes.

Keeping & deleting information

Your study records remain in local app storage until you remove them, for example by clearing that storage. We do not maintain a server-side copy of those records that we can restore for you.

We retain personal information under our control, such as support correspondence, for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy. In deciding how long it is needed, we consider the nature of the information, whether a support issue remains open, security and fraud-prevention needs, legal obligations, and any ongoing dispute. When it is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete it or make it anonymous.

Some information may need to be retained after a deletion request to meet legal obligations, prevent fraud, or resolve disputes. Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove retained backup or archive copies. Information processed through advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, and payment services is also subject to applicable service settings, terms, and retention policies. See the provider links above for more information.

Protecting your information

We take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect personal information under our control against unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. These measures include limiting access to information to people who need it for the purposes described in this policy. Because study records are stored on your device, protecting access to that device also helps protect those records. Internet transmission and electronic storage always carry some risk, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Reviewing our practices

We periodically review our privacy practices to check that this policy reflects how we handle information and that our practices are implemented as described. We take reasonable steps to correct problems we identify, including concerns about providers processing information on our behalf. You can report a concern using the contact information below.

Resolving privacy concerns

If you believe our handling of your information does not follow this policy, please email us with details of your concern at [email protected]. Please describe what happened and include information that will help us investigate. We may contact you for clarification and will work to resolve the issue in accordance with this policy and applicable law.

This process does not limit any right you may have to raise a concern with a competent data-protection or other regulatory authority, or to seek another remedy available under applicable law.

Policy updates

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes to how personal information is handled, we will post a prominent notice on this page. Such changes take effect for existing users 30 calendar days after that notice and apply immediately to new users. The date at the top will identify the revised version.

If you do not wish to continue under an updated policy, you can stop using the app and contact us about personal information we hold. Where a new use requires consent, we will request that consent separately.
